About the club

A hockey club called the Old Bleach was formed in 1949 as a factory team and in 1962 it changed to the name of Randalstown Ladies Hockey Club. At this time the club had a total of 14 players and played their matches on a grass field in Neillsbrook Randalstown now occupied by the Rugby Club.

The first team entered the league at minor level and the same group of players won promotion each year until they achieved Senior Leaue status in 1975. Proudly, Randalstown have retained their position in Senior League to this day. One year after gaining Senior status, the Hockey and Rugby Clubs amalgated and the ladies adopted the now famous green and grey colours of Randalstown.

The club now fields four teams competing in the various leagues of the Ulster Women's Hockey Union. The 1st XI competes in the Senior League Section One, the 2nd XI in Qualifying League Section Two, the 3rd XI in Intermediate League Section One and the 4th X1 in Minor League, Section 2. The clubs Veterans team (over 35s) includes some of its founding members and competes in the Ulster Women's Veterans League. Underage teams have always been regarded as an essential part of the development of the club.

This is reflected in the fact that a number of this years Senior Squad are graduates of our youth program. Youth coaching takes place on the astroturf at the Antrim Forum and is supplied by qualified coaches from the Senior Squad. We regularly field U15, U16 and U21 sides for Ulster competitions. The club won its first Senior Trophy in 1982 when 1XI brought home the Ulster Shield, since then the trophy cabinet at Randalstown has had its fill. Arguably the proudest moment in Randalstown history was securing the Gold medal in the European Club Championship B Division in Bratislava in 1992.
